This is a beautiful glass vase I bought recently at a car boot sale. It is Italian, probably Murano and initially I had it dated to about 1920s. The more I look at it the more I think it could be Victorian. The shape of it, the colours and the fact there are some flecks of ash in the glass from manufacture leads me to this conclusion. It is about 5" tall and 6" wide. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who could tell me some more about it or your thoughts, please. Thanks

      HI Frankie

What a brilliant piece and one that is extremely difficult to produce. Using the Latticino and Zanfirco techniques with a twist. Only a handful of furnaces in Venice still use this technique as it is one that dates back centuries and is EXCPETIONALLY difficult to master. Date wise, anywhere from the 1910 period onwards. A good indication is to check the pontil mark. If it is still rough where the rod has been snapped off and has not been ground, this is a very accurate indication that the piece is possibly 19th century or earlier. Not always 100% accurate but a very good way to start.

GLASS LATTICINO Murano, looks like a Toso piece. They made these starting in the early 20's up to 1950 or so. To bad it didn't have the original label, could date it by that. Just seen one go for 525.00 at a recent auction. Nice !!

I have collected Murano latticino for years. Most of glass of this kind was made in the 50` and 60`. Polished pontil is rarely seen (on heavier pieces). Venini is always signed, bigger and heavier. Generic labels do not help much. I doubt any of pieces offered at the time being are, older although often described as ``late 19th century``. Never pay too much, unless really big items are encountered, which are rare. Avoid buying plates, dishes and saucers i.e. whatever looks suitable to accommodate a bowl or a cup.
