My wife wanted a sewing machine to do some things for a wedding and I remembered my grandmothers Singer. I just couldn't bring myself to buy a hunk-o-junk from Wal-Mart so I began my search. Found this 301-A on craigslist and got it home. After clean up I'd say it's a good 8 of 10. We're very happy to have it.
Thanks for the comment. It's a good thing I don't have a lot of room. I'd be buying up all I saw on Craigslist. There are a lot of nice Singers out there.
Great machine, lots of collectors like them, you need to know that 'standard' straight shank Singer attachments are not compatible and that the bobbins are not the type you can just pick up in your local habby shop - but they are available, usually sold as bobbins for the Featherweight or 221/222. Although they're called 'slant needle' they use an ordinary needle, that's a bonus :)
I have two 301s, great machines! use for quiling and general sewing. It will outlast the new ones.
