This is a "lorgnette".
There is a French verb 'lorgner' that means 'to squint'
.I have a pair myself.
I love the action of the folding mechanism and the pull system to open them. Mine can be used two ways.
When they are closed they are a magnifying glass.
When they are open they are readers.
