This is a group of the 20th Kansas in the Philippine Islands.
Image is by Davis and is dated 1899.
Notice the non standard appearance of some of these troops as they adopt to the environment. One soldier wears a huge hat to shade the sun.
Thanks for looking,
Scott
I love seeing the old military ones. Very interesting!
The military views are abundant-- I have several hundred, some in duplicate. However, with all of the views I have; I still find new ones on a regular basis.

I like to see how they are equipped and how they use it. The rifle with the guy writing must be an old 45/70, wouldn't that have been obsolete by this time?
The Krag was out by this time, but it is not unusual to see state troops of the SAW era with the "Trapdoor" Springfields.

I remember my Gandpa talking about the "ol' 45/70" that he and his brothers would have used when they were young, just prior to WWI. Wish we still had it, but has been lost in time I think.
I have images of National Guard troops with trapdoors that date from about 1915!
It really isn't that unusual. I saw National Guard soldiers who still carried M16A1s, 20 years after the A2 had been developed and most of the Army was using the A4 or M4.
