    Here are two fire extinguishers a friend of mine has. He got them from an old neighbor, (70 something), before he sold his home and moved. They had been in a garage "for ever". The old timer said he "got " them while he was in the airforce, in WWII.
    Pic.#1 is a Pyrene, Heavey Vehicle Type Extinguisher, (with it's wall hanger), Patent #1688195, Oct 6, 1925, and #2347548, Apr 7, 1942. The second patent is for the valve only, so it was an improvement on the orignal design. This dates the extinguisher to after 1942.
    Here are the patent sites for them;
    http://www.google.com/patents?id=LB9DAAAAEBAJ&pg=PA1&dq=patent:1688195&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=2#v=onepage&q=patent%3A1688195&f=false

    Here is a web site for the history of Pyrene Manufacturing in
    Delaware, started in December 1909.

    And here's a web site with Pyrene advertizing;
    http://www.vintagefe.com/pyrene.html

    Pic#2 is a Stop-Fire Inc, New Brunswick, NJ, Fire Extinguisher, Aircraft,
    Type A-20. Patent # 2530583, Feb 28, 1950.
    Here is the patent site, showing several additional patents used on this extinguisher;
    http://www.google.com/patents?id=QsdLAAAAEBAJ&pg=PA1&dq=patent:2530583&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=2#v=onepage&q=patent%3A2530583&f=false

    I can't find a history on Stop-Fire Inc, but see several old exitnguisher listed for sale, tied to the company.

    Both need some cleaning, but are all intact, and have "somthing" in them.
    Thanks for looking,
    Lumpy

      Caution , picture #1 is a unit that contains Carbontetrachloride which forms phosgene gas when heated.......I would have my local fire company or department empty that one for me.... The others contain safer stuff so you can just clean them up for show...They are not worth a lot of money, just for display.
