Please look at my replaced Micro Mosaic beetle pendant. This lovely pendant needed a very nice antique necklace. So because of that I let it put on a very nice antique watch chain made of copper which in my opinion fitch wonderful in combination with the pendant.
I thought the pendant was set on metal (copper) but after investigation of a jeweler it is gold over silver but not hallmarked.
This is one of my jewesl of my passion for the old kind of the 19th century (very very fine tesserae (glass) Micro Mosaic, this little beetle pendant. The whole pendant is 4 cm high so you can imagine how very very tiny these tesserrae are. The tiniest part of the pendant (see picture 4) is only 3 mm in diameter! The patience of these craftsmen must have been endless. The smaller the glass particles are the older the Micro Mosaic. This is also a good indicator to determine the age of an antique Micro Mosaic piece. I estimate that this pendant must be created around 1850. But does anyone have a different vision than I would like to hear? I would also like to know whether one of my fellow collectors has any idea whether there is a symbolic meaning emanates from this bug in this period? And the third question: I want to wear this necklace and actually a chain must be created. This should also be very tine like the pendant. Has anyone an idea what kind of necklace here the best (given the time image) would fit?

Wow... This is a spectacular piece, one of the best micros I've seen in a while! Just beautiful! In America, scarabs like this usually mean its from the 20's when King Tut's tomb was opened, called Egyptian Revival, but I have no idea about European pieces, you're much better at dating micromosaics than I am
I agree Stillwater and yes I suppose the date will be around 1850. I prefer Micro Mosaic before all other antique jewels, it's realy a passion of me. But did you already see my other Micro Mosaic jewels there are some beautiful pieces! For example my flower ring and pendant, my private dancer, my doves and the hair combing lady on cushion! Of course I understand you joke a little bit. I want just to comfort you a little by saying that jewelry, even though they are still so beautiful like you think of mine, are also not everything. But it is so nice to have contact correctly. An extra challenge for me because the English language is not my native language and it is therefore sometimes difficult to find the right words. But please keep responding that makes it so much fun and not only to look at jewelry!

Hello Kathycat, of course you can ask. My country is small with many exports. So we learn in high school (nowadays) at least English. In my jouth I learned, next to the English language,French and German besites of course my own language. And I can say that I have a lot of convenience of that fact also in my passion for antique jewelry!

Wow that's great that you know a few languages. My grandmother was French, but she came to the U.S. when she was young. So never did speak in french. Have you ever been here to the U.S. before? If so to what state?

Yes Kathy I think in that way I'm also a lucky women. I'v been two times in the US. The first time in California, Florida (a.o. Los Angeles, Hollywood, Disney Land, Disney World, Film Studios,Tampa. Than a cruise on the Carribean and than flyed back. The second and last time w'v been there: We flied to New York, made a trip from in total 8000 km to: New York, Washington,Detroit,Toronto, Niagara Falls, Chicago,Yellestone Park, Salt Lake City, South/Dacota, Grand Canyon,Las Vegas, San Francisco, Los Angeles and than we flyed back.
We enjoyed this trip very much, seen very interesting and beautiful cities, nature.
Met a lot of friendly Americans, enjoyed the beautiful nature. All in all, the US is interesting, beautiful and the people are very open, friendly!
How have I missed to love this one!

Thanks Kyra but you dind't miss it you forgot it. I bought this one and put a antique watch chain on it to wear as pendant. About one year later I got a second copy exactly the same from what I could buy. What I did, of course. When I leave, I have to make earrings with these two in my possession. See:
