The only known mallard decoy by Bill Hart, of Belleville, Ontario. Pictured and described in "The County Decoys: decoys of Prince Edward County", by Jim Stewart. Hollow carved and subtly painted, it remains in fine condition after years of use.
Thanks knifeguy and Bigskybob
Love your 'birds', what a wonderful patina!!
Thanks. Actually, that second photo wasn't the best, so I have added another. And, I need to point out that a second mallard drake by Hart was subsequently found, though a bit damaged and not quite as subtly painted as this one. I may bring this decoy to the North American Decoy and Sporting Collectible Show in St. Charles, IL, 20th - 25th of April. Largest and finest show and sale anywhere, with great birds at auction as well as traded in rooms and at the show. If you can be there, this is something not to miss: http://www.nadecoycollectors.org/
