Wills Scott Shadburne 1923-1953 WWII veteran. Cartoonist/Illustrator for the Springfield (MO) News-Leader. Scott did mainly political cartoons of the time. He has five drawings in the book Truman in cartoon and caricature. I was lucky when I found these (and about 192 more) at a local flea mkt. I can't find out what years he was at the Springfield News-Leader, or really anything else about him on the net. He started signing the name Shad. in later years. Any further info on Scott would be appreciated.

I had all the families obituary info from Google. I was looking for info from when Scott worked at the newspaper, thanks.

Scott sent his artwork to various relatives in TX over the years. They ended up at an estate sale, then to the Cattle Barn Flea Mkt.

Hi, I work for Local History at The Library Center in Springfield, Mo. I'm currently working on a program about Springfield cartoonists, including Shad.

      https://thelibrary.org/programs/other/adults.cfm

Library Center - Sketches from Springfield: A Cartoon History
7 p.m. in the auditorium for adults.
The cartoons of Bob Palmer, Betty Love, Emil Remelsberger and other cartoonists litter the pages of Springfield’s historic newspapers and periodicals. Learn about the lives and works of cartoonists in and from Springfield from Local History Associate Konrad Stump. call 417-882-0714.

We are very interested in your collection of Scott Shadburne sketches and would love to speak with you. I can also fill you in on Shad's life and death.

Hello SpfdHistory, I was contacted by a family member of Scott's about 3 years ago at an antique fair. They bought all of Scott's illustrations and all the rest of the artwork I had. Glad I could keep it with the family. I don't have any contact info for them, sorry.....

Thanks for the info. Yes, always nice to keep it in the family. I'm guessing it was Shad's wife son from the second marriage. Do you remember a name and I could try to track that person down? I'm pretty sure he didn't have any siblings, so I'd imagine there's just the biological daughter and the wife's son. Thanks again.
