    (310 items)

Today I would like to share several more of the coins I found in that yard metal detecting a few years back.
German Empire, one Mark, 1875, (.900 silver)
    German Empire, ½ Mark, 1905, (.900 silver)
British, one Shilling, 1900, Victoria, (sterling silver)
I am not a coin collector, so please correct me if I have the silver contents wrong.
    enjoy

Thank you very much BELLIN68 for the nice comment. Blockheaded me, I forgot to turn the coin over, so you only get to see one side!!! Another senior monent, I guess.

Your right on the money. Sterling is .925 silver. The coins are very worn but being buried hasn't hurt them much. Very unusual find.

Thank you very much walksoftly & Militarist
I have found over the years of metal detecting that higher content silver coins tend to do well in the ground for long periods of time. However, certain soil content and conditions can take their toll.

Thank you very much AR8Jason. Several years ago I dug up a 1952 Franklin half in Kerrville, Texas, and like yours, as shiny as it could be. You just never know.

      AR8Jason,
Those tv guys are a joke. When our club received permission to go on a site, we picked up trash, even mowed sometimes to show our gratitude. When I am coin hunting, besides my detector, I always use a small hand held pinpointer and a small homemade probe rod made from brass stock. As I am sure you know, brass will not do damage to a silver coin like a knife blade will. We always tried to leave the area better then we found it. I have not been out as much as much lately as I would like to either.

Looks like I'll have to get me a detector, I already have brass rod, screwdriver and e-tool.

      Bootson,
Stick with a name brand, you will be a lot happier.

Good to see other (and apparently much more successful) MD enthusiasts here! You have shown some top shelf finds!

      Kevin,
Correct, I do not want to play doctor!!!!

      eccentric1,
Actually, I got them off the middle shelf, the top shelf is reserved for the good stuff!!! Just kidding.
Thank you very much for the love and kind words.

      Kathycat,
Diamond, yes, as long as it is attached to a gold ring.

Packrat-place, my detecting finds shelf is actually an old Piano bench, so all my finds tend to be top shelf...the really good stuff I find I throw back in the hole so I can still complain about being so inept at it. LOL

      AR8Jason,

I am not sure where you picked up a reference in my comment about doctors or detectors. The "MD" I was referring to was in fact Mad Dog 20/20, which I am sure many of the locals around here assume I have been drinking when they see me wandering aimlessly around a vacant lot digging holes in the ground.

      AR8Jason,
I thought it was Boone's Farm Strawberry! As you can tell, sometimes my brain wanders around aimlessly. They have a name for that, however, I will not get into it now.
