Patented by Thomas L. Sturtevant of Quincy, Massachusetts on June 8, 1915, Patent #1,142,126 for use on the battlefield. This variation of his patent made the fence acceptable as a perimeter fence on a farm or a ranch. It is more visible with the barbs all facing up or down and it is less likely to damage the hide of an animal yet discourage them from sticking their head through the fence.

I had no idea there were so many types of barbed wire out there. The history is amazing. I've heard of razor wire and barbed wire, but who knew.

A lot of y0ur posts (no pun intended) are accompanied by the actual patent. Those too are good for the imagination.
