I recently bought a box of assorted cans in an oil and gas memorabilia auction. One of the items in the box was this bulldog. It has two pegs on the back.
Has anybody seen something like this before. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Hi garagemania, my work involves working on class 8 truck (18 wheeler) components such as axles, transfer cases, etc. One of our customers are Mack Trucks. This looks exactly like the bulldog symbol of their company. Each Mack truck has a bullldog like this as a hood ornament. It looks like the dogs collar has Mack written on it, but I cannot get a good enough close up to tell. Go to the Mack Truck website and let me know what you think ! Hopefully this will be it. My guess anyway ! ThriftyGypsy
I have one like it and yes it is hood ornament for mack trucks . We use as a symbol for Marine bulldog but it is a Mack truck ornament and heavy brass . great find !
With two pegs on the back I would suggest that this particular piece is for the passenger side of the truck, usually on the door somewhere..
Hey Pop_abides, I think you are right on this one. It was probably on the door or side of the hood. The one Manikin has sounds more like the hood ornament since it is heavy and probably made out of steel. The hood ornaments were always solid steel, since they needed to be more durable in that location. The vehicle side emblems are usually plastic. The main giveaway are the two "pegs" on the back of the bulldog. Whatever the location, we all agree that it is a Mack item. T.G.
Thank you so much for shedding light on this item. I was totally at a loss as to what this item was.
Once again - a big "Thank You" to everyone who responded.
Oh I missed yours was plastic in title :-( Yes then it would not go on hood for sure :-) maybe dashboard :-)
