My girlfriend and I collect Danish Modern and mid century. We went to a local market and found this carved bowl. It has all the hallmarks of a late 50's Don S. Shoemaker design, and we have sent to an authority in Shoemaker designs that is still stumped. Obviously we love the bowl regardless but would love to know if this is one of his designs.
The bowl is made from cocobolo wood, which is proper to his work, and also has a label on the bottom designating " s.a hecho en mexico" which also points to the proper location. Also I noticed the legs have the right shape and line as his other works and the use of the natural knots in the wood also are indicative of Shoemaker, as well as the wood pegs used to hold the bowl together. No use of nails or screws here.
Any help would be appreciated!
i will ask m grandma- as she was his wife.
