Antique Silver and onyx Perfume Bottle Necklace with chain. I would love to know more about this item. I found this little bottle in the ground in the woods where I live. I would like to find out who made it, and how much it is worth. Also the era it was made in.
Vintage Perfume or Poison Metal Bottle Pendant Necklace......Unique
Wear your choice of perfume or poison around your neck for everyone to sample. A very unique piece.
This charming pendant is a detailed bottle made of old metal, could be pewter, and hangs down from a chain of 30" long. There is no clasp. Black colored stones surround the neck & a black stone is on the top of the stopper. The stopper is attached with it's own chain & fits loosely down into the bottle. The bottle measure 2" tall with the stopper on.
This was likely part of a chatelaine, I would guess made sometime between 1880-1910. But it could also be from the 1970's & made in India. Is it marked at all? I am guessing that the 30" chain was likely added in the 1920's when long chains were all the rage. Very cool piece.
I have one as well that I got from an antique store about 30 years ago. It too has a very long chain, about 30in. I always see people saying it was for perfumes, but like yours, the lid on mine is loose fitting so it wouldn't be a liquid. I was told by one lady it was for "spirits", she ment coke or something you sniff. The bottom of my dipper thing is broken off so I've never been sure if it was just a skinny metal dowel or if it got wider at the end.
