    I found this weird jar lid at a local flea mkt. Now I need help Id'ing it. The mouth is 2 3/4" and is a little over 3" wide by 1" tall, turning purple. Thanks in advance.

      I have never seen one quite like that. I wonder if that wire bale locks the lid down somehow? How would you pull it down to get a tight seal? I wolder if a part of the bale is missing?

      Hey gotwire, the first thing that comes to mind for me is a handle to carry the jar with ! I have a five gallon glass jar ( don't know what it was used for ) with no lid, and the measurements sound about right. There are no handles on my jar, so it would be awkward to carry unless it had a lid like this. That is my 2 cents worth. Thanks for sharing, ThriftyGypsy

      Pretty heavy looking lid. Possibly from an early fruit jar. Maybe Millville or Putnam???

      Thanks for all the input. There are three thread lugs at different levels on the inner rim. It's a heavy thick lid and it looks like the wire bail is a handle rather than a closure. I love this stuff!!
