Here is a heavily worked vase by ________ in uranium glass with golden orange iridescence swirled in - decorated in threes - three pulled peaks, three rim indentations, three cartouche shaped indentations on the top half, and three indentations around the bottom. Hand painted gilt wavy lines radiate from the top and again from the bottom, creating a heavy gold shimmer on top of this beautiful glass. Polished pontil - about 8.5" tall. Glows fiercely under black light. This is pure artistry in form at the furnace - a glassblower having a good day at work; having fun just creating.
I left the maker blank above, because while there is strong evidence to support Rindskopf (a friend has an identically decorated piece in what appears to be a classic Rindskopf shape). Then there is a similar decor by Kralik (Helios) as well as the pieces produced by Poschinger in Buchenau. This is a case where, to me, the who is not as important as the what. Pieces like this are what makes collecting so much fun!
A Major WOW!
Gorgeous!
I was going to vote Poschinger until Al chimed in. I've seen this Helios like decor and surface swirls on their high-end pieces, but never the shape. Shape attribution should win out, I suspect. Beautiful piece...contact me if and when you get bored of it! Seriously.
Craig, I made an offer that was rejected immediately, made another that was "under consideration" - twenty minutes later I saw that there were five offers, and I thought that's it, I have to bite the bullet - I don't want to miss it for another $50 or $100. I got lucky this time. I have no doubt that you will score again soon :)
You are so right, pieces like this one make collecting fun and exciting! I had been watching this one too. I'm glad you got it! CONGRATULATIONS!
Where are you guys "watching" these things?
