This Gerstner belonged to my father who was a Machinist for 37 years after World War II. It was purchased around 1950 and stayed in the machine shop until he retired in 1987. Dad passed away in 1998 and I've used it for gun cleaning equiptment until recently. As you can see it was in pretty bad shape. After cleaning up and polishing the wood , I went to work on the hardware. Each piece was put into an ultrasonic cleaner to remove the heavy rust, then hand polished using a dremel with white rouge and then red jewelers rouge for a final shine. The green felt was replaced with new felt and the leather handle, which was in good shape, just needed some leather dressing supplied by Harley Davidson. It is now used to house Dads precision tools (calipers, mic's, etc.) where they belong.
