This name plate was made in 1965 aboard the USS Forrestal, the brass plate (needs polished) was salvaged from a watertight door that needed repair and the wood parts were all made from raw wood in our carpenter shop.
The engraving was done by a guy in the machine shop named David Thomas, he used a gun that he modified to fit his needs, much like a vibro etcher but much stronger.
Thanks BELLIN68
Thanks for sharing Pop!
The engraving style is great. I bet that some of the techniques were passed on from the sailors of earlier years. USN shipboard shops are known to have created some spectacular trench art!

What a great piece to have kept Pops ! I would cherish it . Thanks for sharing it :-)
wow that is a great piece. The Forrestal almost sunk in a massive fire after a weapons malfunction in 1967.
