Hi. I´m so curious and exited about my 1922-S Peace Dollar. Hope you can help me to solve some information.
Looking to my coin, it do does´t seems to be circulated. It looks great but some scratches. The sun rays are very fine to me, but slimmer than all the bunch of other Peaces I have seen, and this is very important. They are not wear to me, even shortened. If they were not well shaped, sure should be shortened, but is not the case. Looks like they were slim since struck.
The couple of feathers in the end of the left wing of the eagle, are the designed for the first Peace Dollars, after that, the design was two big feathers instead of one finishing with two small, so my dollar is of the early 1922 minted.
The "S" referring to San Francisco mint, looks like it was smashed, but I can not see any damage in the surroundings. And style is different, a little bit fatter than the others I compared.
The "M´s", seems to be different, too.
The collar edge is incomplete above the word AMERICA an keep vanish´till horizontal Dollar word. Looking at the flat of the coin, this is higher trough that missing collar, so the dies did not push the metal on that specific place of the coin.
This facts, altogether , point to a San Francisco coin Proof, early on February 1922, when they were doing proof to release the low relief Peace Dollar.
If we see the obverse, the hair of Liberty looks exactly the same as the first Philadelphia low relief proofs still on collections. It seems not wear but very weaken struck. I can tell this because of the tiara. The tiara has their fully rays well struck, even the small ones, they are all completes. And the Liberty hair is well finished in the curls, above the neck, and the side wihskers are not well defined but still there, just like the first low relief minted in Phili, but as I said, weakly struck.
Besides, it looks like raw silver and seems never been polished!!! Texture is completely different to other meant to circulate. I´m started to believe this Peace is one of the first proof minted in San Francisco, prior to released proof and business strike, and maybe, the only survivor of those first tries, when they were just finding the final caliber.
Hope you can help me on this. Thanks so much.

Hi, ROBin. Thanks for the answer. Yes I did, and magnetic proof as well. Pretty sure is not a fake. I can not find the doubling on the obverse but olive, in reverse is detached as original design, mountains are the same. And as you can see, seems that never been polished, there is no marks and seems very softly, but if you see it in your hand, looks like almost new. I tried to shot a very good and defined photograph so be able to see it as is it, and even much further that you can notice bare eye, other wise I´ll be lying my self.
I´ll check out the P proof. Thanks again.

I have seen other coins with the same double ray. Do you think it might be a testing coin during the beginning of low relief? I guess some coins most fail on the try before accurate pressure get done, and some of them might survived. If you see the color and texture, is not the same to all others Peaces, except for a VAM... 1922-s VAM-2x Rim Cud at UN. Discovered 02/10 by Peaceman.
This VAM Peace it was not polished too, not been suppose to circulated, indeed, color is the same.
I think my Peace could be a survival testing coin from the very beginning low relief struck, and obviously a gem and unique piece.
Struck talks about early design and a weak struck talks about strong less dies, thin rays are unique and even more: I think Liberty forehead is a little bit different than rest of Peaces, more stylistic.
I´m in the search, hope been right. Wish to know what you think.
      Thanks.
