my aunt passed away recently and I now am the proud owner of a rocking chair that she once had in her home. its a very unusal rocking chair, or it is to me anyway. i dont know any history on it and i'm hoping someone here may be able to help me. i have had several people ask me how old it is, where it came from, etc and i have to tell them i have no answers! i dont even know where to start asking questions now that my aunt is gone. so any background on this type of chair would be appreciated, or any info on where to even start looking for answers!!!
thanks for any help, its something that makes me think of her every time i look at it, or rock in it. i would love to know more about it.

I think your chair is a RJ Horner.
I have a rocker identical to this one except that it has caryatids (female angel faces) as its carvings instead. Online I have found other similar pieces . Two sets including a settee and chair like mine; a multiple set similar to mine and above but with lion carvings; & am aware of a woman named Susan having a rocker like mine. With multiple pieces you'd think someone would have good knowledge on history of these. I know only this. Many of these were in New Orleans BY the turn of the century. Also, as was mentioned above, theysure look like pieces from RJ Horner. RJ Horner was out of New York though.. so were these french-inspired pieces brought into NY and LA ports?? Or were they made here? I'd love to know
Just to note: the three rockers I've seen have same type rocking slats. Inspecting mine I don't believe they were added later.. they match construction style, wood, etc..
To find out some information look on the bottom of the chair, or on the back or one of the slats of the chair.
