Does anyone know the time period of a stand like this? It was my great grandparents. They came from Norway. It's carved stone or marble. I can't tell. It must weight about 40lbs. It has little holes in it and we were thinking those were for candles. It's very interesting and I think its from the late 1800's or there about. Can anyone help me? Is it worth anything?
Do you know how much its worth? It's in great shape. Just dirty (and heavy).
Any further findings regarding this tree stand? I have one almost exactly like it.
My family had one just like this. Yes, it is very heavy. My brother now is the proud owner of it. It had been a mystery for our family, too, for many years. Lately he has been actively researching it. He has recently learned it is made from Terra Cotta. From what he found, it was made by the Northwestern Terra Cotta Company. They were given out at the annual company Christmas party to the outstanding salesman of the year. (They manufactured the terra cotta for some of Chicago's most prominent buildings in early part of the last century.) They were made in the 1930s. He could not find any value was found as they are not well known.
Made by Northwest Terracotta out of Chicago. I believe approximately early 1930s Mine weighs 47 pounds without any water. Ours has been in our family for almost 90 years after it was abandond when tenants moved out of apartment.
