Lets face it, most of the gas & oil signs, especially from the 60s & 70s are, well, fairly boring. There are exceptions of coarse, theres the Mobil peg. , Texacos, Shell, & im probably leaving out quite a few others that i cant afford right now. But i think the older ones rock!! Musgo,Red Crown, Mobil Gargoyle ect. ect. & then theres THIS. This (to me) is what collecting porcelain signs is all about!! I really still dont know much about this sign except that it an original & when i saw it, i was going to have it! Four colors, HEAVY vitereous enamel porcelain & killer graphics. Cant figure out if the "winter king" is protecting the car or if the car is outrunning him. I WILL NEVER GET RID OF THIS SIGN!!!!
P.S. i forgot to mention the Globe Oil signs, man u got to love them! But,then again, who can afford one!!!! on that note the old "sunrise" Sunray D-X signs are killer too!! Did u see that Sunray oil lease sign on e-bay sell for over 900.00$ i mean, AN OIL LEASE SIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great sign.I love those old signs that have a lot of color.
Totally agree - the old signs are fantastic but they cost a fortune to buy
Well as much as i hate to be the one to tell you.. This sign is a reproduction. If it wasnt a sign like this would be worth thousands of dollars. Champlin NEVER made this sign. If i were you i would try to get a refund if you paid a bunch for it. If not then hang it on your wall.
If you want more opinions post it on the link i am providing there are plenty of experts on oldgas that can point out why its a reproduction for you. The site is really a wealth of knowledge.

I thought it might be a repro because of the font used, very common. Anyway it's a cool sign if you didn't pay big bucks for it.
well oilman, thats what u get when u dont do your homework. I thought i might have snuck in under the wire on this on, & as i was fairly busy at work that week and called a buddy whose collected alot longer than i have, (just not so recently) the thought it was clean. What i was able to find (after the purchase) was that the colors where spot-on for that decade, the layering was very heavy, the right patena, &, oh yea, "honey, bring me those golden slippers, cause i wqant to believe!!" Well, i still love the sign, i guess if i want killer graphics i should collect Gen. store signs, oh yea, & get engaged to Donald Trump!!!!!
wow, what response! Thanks :belling68, officialfuel, garrybeair, mooreantiques, packrat_place, AR8Jason, garagemania, tommy1002, EJW-54, & hunter ,we appreciate u lookin! P.S. anyone out there got the "inside scoop" on colacorner? they seem do consistantly have a fair amount of wayyyy above average quality gas pump signs, there for about a month they were adding 3-6 signs every 7-10 days. Must have been an extensive collectors inv. , seems like its slowing down now. As time went on, those signs looked so fine they became scary. Always having 15-25 bids, selling in the 150.00-500.00$ range. Just curious, i bought about 3 of there signs. Guess i better run em by oilman!!!
