I have just started out collecting marbles and have learned a tiny bit about the machine-made marbles of the 20th century. But I have a huge way to go still.
Here are 2 large marbles - they measure 15/16". I wonder if anyone can tell me if they are new or date to the mid-century? I apologize for the poor color - I shot these at almost dusk, but the color in the marbles themselves is pretty accurate. The one on the left is pale pale pink glass with a cloudy blue swirl and many tiny bubbles. The bubbles are bubbles. That is, I don't think that's mica and it certainly is not aventurine.
The marble on the right is ruby red - intense transparent ruby red - with opaque yellow blobs. I thought maybe that was "egg yolk" but I think the term doesn't probably is misapplied here. The yellow blotches fluoresce a hot intense orange!
So all you marble mavens out there... I'd love some edification from you. Thanks all! Love this site.
