I found this sewing machine cleaning out a cabin for the new owners, they asked to to take it to the dump so I asked to keep it and of course they agreed. I tried to look it up online and found many similar, but none exactly like it, was just wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this... Year, rarity, possible asking price etc... Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated as I know nothing about it. Thank You in advance

Possible asking price ? ...seriously, try ebay or worthpoint. They are great for pricing.

Oh, okay. We do have people with knowledge of sewing machines on here. It seems like quite a few people go straight to pricing, and that is kind of tricky. Welcome to Collectors Weekly. TG

Well I was able to find out it was made in 1937 but not much more then that. I've found many "Sphinx" and "Pheasant" models, but none that look like this one.

Do you have the top of the case? It's a nice machine, I love the scalloped decal design around the base. Very cool!

AE 558183 is part of the batch of 40,000 commissioned June 16 1937 at Elizabethport NJ. Yes it is a model 15, the decal is known as RAF. The base it's in now isn't original. Not really rare, and not valuable. There were over half a million model 15's produced from the AE series alone which covers Sept 1935 to June 1938, and about the same number again produced from the Kilbowie factory in Scotland, the 15 was one of Singer's most popular and longest made models.

I do have the top of the case, I also found last night while wiping it down the front plate and access plate on the side are real silver, which was a nice aurprise, wasnt expexting that, the more I learn about thos, the more I think ita gonna end up remounted in my living room.

Usually all the plates are nickel plated steel, although sometimes plain polished steel, chrome palted, or painted black. I haven't heard of Singer using real silver. The plates are usually very highly engraved and beautiful. From what I can see of yours it looks the same as one of my #15's with a leaf design?

It's a shame that Singer removed the detailed serial number listings from their website, all you can get there now is the year.

AE 558183 is part of the batch of 40,000 commissioned June 16 1937 at Elizabethport NJ. This is the exact date, from the Singer records that used to be on the Singer website.

I inherited an identical machine (mine has all the same markings)...different serial # of course. According to the Singer website, mine was issued in 1930. My machine came with the original (all wood) cabinet, foot attachments, oil can and manual. I too, am curious about it's worth.
