The “King’s Crown” on this badge associates this insignia with the British Empire, and its theme is obviously musical. Since the manner of attaching the insignia isn’t the usual type for a cap badge, I’m thinking this was on a British Army musician’s pouch of some sort.
So, has anyone seen this insignia before? Can anyone offer a different idea of origin than mine?
This insignia, along with several WWI era British and Canadian Army cap badges were attached “hate belt” style to a civilian belt that looked like something a woman might wear. The belt was too rotted and falling apart to salvage, and I spent an evening carefully cleaning the clumps of gunk off the badges with Q-tips and warm soapy water.
I like to imagine the belt was worn by a WWI area Salvation Army Donut Lassie, who collected the insignia from the men she served, but of course that’s just a flight of my imagination!
It reminds me of a neckerchief slide, the way it's attached in the back. It's quite nice, I love that trumpet design! I love your imagination, perhaps it's actually the truth! :D
