Geiger counter from the military of defense...1961. put batteries in it, swithched it on, but could not find any radioactive materials in my house here in upstate NY. Any idea the worth for something like this ?
It looks like you have a couple of Victoreen CDV-717 Geiger Counters. They were pretty common as the entire world was in a panic back in 1961 and we were actually about to blow ourselves to kingdom come.
It isn't surprising that you didn't find anything in your house as these were ion-chamber radiological survey meters capable of measuring only high levels of radiation that would be present after a major nuclear event. (so that's a good thing.)
As far as the value... I did a trending on Ebay for you... A full kit with manuals, batteries, cord, spools and dosemeters just sold on ebay for 180 bucks but just the meters go in the 50 dollars a pair range. (Which I don't understand because they are just COOL!!)
The whole getup is called a -1 "Shelter Kit" which you kept in your little bomb shelter and after the mushroom cloud you would hang it from a bag outside to see if it was safe to go outside.
If I am wrong on the model number (I can't tell 100% from your picture) tell me and I will do some more research for you, OR if you have any other specific questions let me know.
