This is a belt buckle and it was made in the South but what you see isn't real. As a patternmaker in the Navy in the late '60's and early '70's I often found myself in the molding shop. One of the molders had an original CSA buckle and we decided to make some for ourselves. These were cast in brass and I soldered mine to a issued buckle and wore it for several years. The slide buckle finely fell apart which left the skeleton on the obverse. I was reminded of this by fhrjr2 when he commented on another item I had placed on here.
If i remember correctly the real CSA buckle was pressed or hammered and not cast.
