I picked this up at a garage sale and I think it is pretty, but I don't have a clue what it is. The tag on the back is from a local dept. store that was opened the the late 1800's that changed its name in the 1960's. It is about 1/4 inch thick and appears to be embossed like paper and if "fuzzy" on the back. It is 6.5 X 6.5 inches square. There is nothing else on the back. No way to hang it or anything. Any ideas?
How fun! A real mystery! It might be fun to play a guessing game! Perhaps it's an early 20th century mouse pad! Or a desk blotter? Or an item to decorate a scrapbook cover or something? Or a craft item?
It's very beautiful! You should display it in a nice frame!
Well, if it were bigger I'd guess a pressed paper 'seat' for a chair. It has to be that altho alot smaller than I've ever used! We have some chairs that have those over a big empty place in the seat center, Decorative tacks to hold them in place. Pretty comfy sitting I might say, Occassionally these would be placed over chair seats that were originally caned! that is a shame too! I love a good cane seat chair! Fun to do the cane work too, IF you can get good materials, it was getting harder to find when I quit doing that a some years back!
This would be way too little for a full size chair. Unless it was for a childs chair or high chair seat!
I'm thinking it might be an early floor tile.
It could have been used as a trivet?
looks like some sort of desktop accessory to me...
