This is the Corvair from the last "what is it?". Its a 1963 Corvair Lakewood 700, & someone tell Ralph, its been around almost 50 yrs. now, hasnt rolled over once! The Restro. was done some 20 yrs now, & i got to be honest, it wasnt done ery well. Never the less, it didnt seem to be to many $$ away from crusin, i think i may have been A LITTLE off. Doesnt matter, this is still a pretty cool ride,(for a station wagon). P.S. the tag in the back seat says 1983.
Havent seen one of these since the sixtys. Thanks for sharing.
The station wagon must be a lot scarcer than the other models because I rarely see any.
Unsafe At Any Speed....lol...
We had one back in mid 6os..blue..Threw fanbelts with great regularity..had a little dash lever for a gearshift..But I liked it. Was good on gas.
It was one of the coldest days of winter (about 15 years ago) & we were headed to Kansas (from Tulsa) , as we approched the state line, the car srarted running slower, & slower.... it stopped just across the state line. Thought it was probably a clogged fuel filter. As we looked for the filter, i noticed a shiny white area between the carburetor and the engine. Now I don't claim to know much about these air cooled, for cylinder engines, but somehow, somewhere between the intake and the carburetor things had frozen up! In those days, I did do a little drinking, my buddy must've had too many, his idea to get it running was to thought out with the lighter! Thank you, we3sisters : officialfuel : Hunter : bratjdd : garrybeair ; packrat-place :mrmajestic 1 : toolate 2 : beachbomb : ttomtucker : CollectorsWeeklyStaff & mustangtony for the luv & comments.

im getting ready to find out toolate2! so far its been fine at the current speed. (not running yet)
It does'nt really sound like the vehicle to take on long trips with Sagehopper, like going across town,or to the store, or around the block. Hmm......
thank you vontrike,at least your positive about the car! Well, at least your not negative, do you think it's safe? The bad things iv'e heard cant all be true, several of these were sold, Corvair was part of G.M., right? If the car was THAT bad, they would have quit selling them. People would have heard about the problems it had, right? Oh, Ok , i see what your sayin. Let Angie drive it.
My dream car of sorts as this is what I can afford. Plus they look great.
