This is some kind of weird winged sea creature. It is one of my favorites. Its called a Hippocampus and was made by Salviati glass.

      Hi Odat

Salviati were the masters of this type of Glass and they were especially renowned for their Murano Glass Goblets and Chalices in the 17th century Facon De Venise style and the older antique pieces can fetch big money. The technique used here is the Sfumato where different coloured oxides are mixed with clear glass then merged whilst the piece is being blown.

      Great piece and exceptionally rare

      Great glass!

I always associate the large clear bases such as yours with modern pieces. Do you have some documentation for mid century?

Thanks for the help and thanks for sharing!
