I see that you like Banjos! Kevin is right. It's interesting to get an overall view of your collection of 750 clocks but it would be great to see them one at a time with one to four high resolution photos along with history or explanation as to why you added the clock to your collection. What makes it special? Just out of curiosity, how many of these clocks do you keep running?
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Bruce, and thank you, yes over the years I went in streaks, Banjo's, Porcelain, cuckoos,Gilbert is one of my favorites, cause I was born & raised near the Gilbert Clock Co. My Grandather was a clock maker there, I went to the Gilbert High School. I know other clock companies are higher end like Ansonia or New Haven, etc. I do like Seth Thomas or German clocks. Love Lux or other novelty or animated clocks. When I buy a clock it's cause I like it, not the value. A clock person told me "than your not a collector" that I should buy for investment. I don't look at my collection that way.By the way I run as many as I can get away with, my husband will stop them he says the tick tock drives him crazy. So I try to run ones that he can't hear all the time.
Hi timeless5 and you're very welcome! I haven't started collecting Gilbert Clocks yet, but they have some very nice models. My mentor loves his Gilbert Curfew Clock. That's really neat that your family was involved in making them. There are many different reasons for collecting and a collector can have many reasons for collecting. That investor was way off base. That reasoning sounds a bit snobbish to me. I'm sure you have some very valuable clocks in your collection. That Junghans musical clock you described sounds rare and I'm sure quite valuable. We really enjoy our Junghans clocks. They have very beautiful chime and strike sounds. I'm sure that running your huge collection all at once would make life pretty noisy...plus you would have to wind about 100+ clocks a day just to keep up! You'd have to go outside to talk on the phone and you'd have to wear headphones to watch T.V. :)
Thanks again!
Bruce
Hi Misty,
Speaking of a lot of clocks chiming, check out this video of a 1,000 clocks chiming at once: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tidoValXtiw
I also posted it on another string but I wanted to make sure you saw it. It's pretty neat!
One benefit of posting your clocks one, or a couple at a time here is that you'll always have access to an online record of your collection. That's assuming that Collector's Weekly stays up and running. I don't know how they pay the bills but they've put together a very nice website.
It's great to have another clock collector in the Community! Especially someone who is very familiar with Gilbert Clocks. Again, welcome!
Regards,
Bruce
OMG I want to live there! That was wild! I will try to post the Junghans this weekend.I would love some info on it. and thank you for all the info & being so nice. I finally found other people who really love clocks. Regards, Misty
