    tintype ambrotype and daguerreotype i love the way some of these have that unique shine to it the tintype are cool if you put a magnet to it they actually stick nice find !!!

      Photo 1: tintype in CDV size mount. This style of mount and the clothing date this piece to the late 1870s- 1880s.

      Photo 2: Looks like a tintype as well and from the same time period.

      Photo 3/ 4: Both are paper images and date from 1880s- 1900.

      why does photo 3/4 still have that shine i thought only Daguerreotypes only have that hologram look ......where i received these photos this family dates back almost 200 years ago early 1800's the old man saved everything from his grandparents ..he was 97 when he died 3 years ago

      You will see that shine on other formats. A dag is a "hard image" and not on paper.

      Do an online search under "daguerreotype" and you will quickly see what I am talking about.
