I have researched him and found him to be a German J.D. Kestner doll but am very confused because his body has markings that do not correlate with the markings on his head. If you are knowledgeable in J.D. Kestner dolls, I would love to hear from you and gain some insight as to what I have found. I fell in love with his little angelic face the minute I saw him, but now that I have read a little bit about J.D. Kestner dolls, I am very intrigued and want to know more! He is missing his wig and he also has a broken arm. Do you know where I could find replacements? I would like to restore him back to as close original condition as he can get without impeding his authenticity where it is not needed.
Hi
Your doll head is a reproduction of a J.D.K ( Kestner ) It is not an original antique . If you want him for a display piece you can buy a wig on Ebay they have them all the time type in doll wig and measure around the dolls heads . I happen to have a repro JDK at moment that came in a box lot that I am donating to a charity . Repro's have no value in todays market . Sorry hate to hand out bad news but he is without a doubt a repro . Oh and the bodies the original heads were on were either white kid leather or fully jointed composition , No cloth between limbs like repro's ususally have . I can not see body and normally I would ask for number and markings on back of head which you can add if you want to know which JDK your doll was copied from . Thank you for using CW and welcome to the site .
I found a beautiful doll at a flea market and I'm trying to figure out a few things about her. I believe she's a Kestner doll. She has the word Love, under it is Hilda, under that is the copyright mark, under that is J.D.K. JR. 190, under that is Gesgesch 1070, and finally Made in Germany. She is all bisque, handstrung, 17 inches long, and looks like a young child with long blond curls. I don't know what her hair made of, but I don't think its human hair. She has on what I believe is a handmade slip and pantaloons, and 2 piece dress w matching bonnet. She has an open mouth with 2 top teeth showing and she's absolutely adorable! Any idea what the 190, and 1070 mean? Where should I go to have her restrung and cleaned?
Jadanov, can you post a photo of her and the markings please I would love to see her . 190 is not Not Hilda and it is the mold number . Hilda was marked 3 ways 245-237 and sometimes followed by 1070 which is usually accompanied by the German words ges. Gesch which is the German registration number. Hilda name also on back of head . She is one of the most reproduced of Kestner Dolls .
Does she have painted eyes not glass ?
