Hi to everyone, I have another piece that is a mystery to me.
It looks like some kind of ribbon would go under the bar, but then how would it hang. Any ideas ???? Thanks, Dodie

You are correct that a piece of ribbon, usually black grosgrain, would have been threaded and looped through the bar on the slide. It would have had a decorative gold clip at the top for attaching to a garment. Search "mourning ribbon" for a complete piece.

Thanks for the information, I looked at mourning ribbons online.

At early times such an (often) velvet ribbon had no closure at all but was knotted in the neck.
