This silver and enamel ring was a souvenir from the China, Burma, India (CBI) theater of operations during WW2.

The ring has a central square with a deep engraved "John" that has been filled in with blue enamel. There is also red and green enamel. One side is engraved "India", the other "1944".

This style, engraving, and colored enamels are all typical of the CBI theater souvenirs. Bracelets and rings are probably the most common souvenir items from the CBI theater.

    Thanks for looking.

Hand engraved and three enamel colors; enamels melt at different temperatures and it means it had to be fired three times, once for each color, starting with the color with the highest melting point; not an easy task at all.

Ivan-- thanks for the information on the enamels. I wasn't aware of the different melt temps.
