I stopped at a flea market today and this necklace was among a box of junk jewelry, and it caught my eye. It seemed gaudy, but I like gaudy. Asked for the price and we settled with $1.00. When I got home I inspected to see if all the stones were intact and realized that it was signed Miriam Haskell. All the stones are intact by the way. Beautiful heavy glass bead and rhinestone necklace. I decided to do a search on the internet and noticed the value of Haskell jewelry. I found similarities of the clasp and assume it is from the 1950's. But I really haven't found anything that matches this particular piece. Has anybody ever seen this necklace? I'd would be grateful for feedback from any Miriam Haskell pros out there.
Google "Cathy Gordon Miriam Haskell" and look through her stuff. If you can't find it, I think there is an email address to contact her at. Congrats on the find!
Miriam Haskell used a couple of different hallmarks and possibly more. If you research the hallmark it might help to establish a more exact date and lead you to another that is the same. One site I was on showed their mark (name) in a horseshoe design for the 1950's. The oval you show was also used and still is. My site said that none of their stuff was marked between 1924 and 1940 when the oval started being used. I had printed out some info on makers marks and the above was in those notes.
Thanks for sharing a nice find.
Hi. I have a pair of MH earrings that I purchased in the 60s that bear a resemblance to your ornate necklace. I did a little research on MH and her stuff is very collectible--she did some fabulous pieces. Congratulations on your find!
Mizjane, I would really love to see the earrings. Is it possible? I have been researching MH Jewelry hours on end since I found this piece, and seen so, so much beautiful jewelry from her collections. I have come close with the works of Robert Clark which was a bracelet, with amber stones and a centered rhinestone. I have not seen the color of my piece, which tends to be of a goldish, greenish. Being that I am new to this site, can members email each other, and how? Sometimes the simpilist things can stare me right in the face and I seem to miss it. I did however upload a pic of my grand daughter. Look forward to hearing from you and others.
