This is my cherished Dove in Hand/Hand & Dove Atterbury milk glass covered dish, patented Aug. 27, 1889. The lid features a most beautiful hand gently embracing a tame and tender dove. Mold work is remarkable: Bird and lace cuff are rendered with exceptionally fine detail. 'Lacy base' has pedestal. Glass is full cream opaque white - a bright, glossy white. Box measures 6 and 3/4 inches long. I use it as a glove box.
Those who favor Atterbury glass will observe that the dove is missing a blue 'jewel' eye, and that the stone in the ring should be red. One day, I shall find an eye for the dove, a pale blue or muted pink. I find I like the ring's blue stone.
Atterbury was a American glass concern active circa 1865-1903.

Thank you kindly, Sir! You are most kind! miKKo
I have the base for this without the lid...... I keep it on my dressing table, so! close to where it should be! thank you for informing me to what I have...:-)
Thank you very much, inky, for your kind comment! This base might fit other Atterbury lids, as well. If you are looking for a lid, a former Treasurer of the National Milk Glass Collectors Society sells on ebay. Her moniker is dnl_antiques, and her first name is Dee. I don't mean to advertise on her behalf - don't want to break the rule!s - but I do recommend that you consult her if you wish to identify the proper lid/lids for your base. She is most knowledgeable and ethical; also her prices are remarkably low for the items she sells. She has been in the business 30 years, and seems to know the big collectors. I recently pined away after an antique English opalescent bowl she was selling. She had acquired it from a museum. I have 10 years experience buying on ebay, and I think that she is the best Seller I have met. Certainly, she would be my first stop if I were seeking to match base to lid. She will know off the top of her head. Kind regards, miKKo
Thank you! this was very kind of you to take the time to write all this, I shall definitely look her up!!!...:-)

Really delicate and pure miKKo. I like this piece a lot.
I don't think guiding someone to an ethical seller who can help find a piece/part is breaking the rules. Part of the beauty of CW is knowledge and assistance.
Have a great day miKKo!
