We were told this chair is at least 80 years old. I have found similar chairs from the 1920's/1930's and am curious if anyone has any information on the maker or style of the chair. It seems it would be somewhat in the line of French design, but, just not sure.
The chair was painted over original finish which appears to be almost black and it has been recovered. But, we can find no original markings and are thinking they may be under the white paint.
If you have any information on this or maybe where I could find more information I would so appreciate it!

The arms are similar to a chair I just posted. Mine has been in the family for 100 plus years. The base and top are different. Mine came from New York.
Minneapolis during grad school - 1971. Bought two of these chairs at a garage sale. $5.00 a chair - somewhat broken apart in two large boxes. One a gentleman's chair, the other a rocker. Caning gone, (but evidence of style), black horsehair seat cushions, black paint finish, no markings. Gentleman's chair with a large carved medallion in upper middle cane. From a large estate where owner wanted to go Danish modern. I also bought two huge torcheries for same amount. Recently saw same chair on a vacated house in Charleston WV. Went back to find out more and it was gone. I took the rockers off. Refinished back to natural mahogany, replaced seat structure and upholstery. Could have sold them many times. Was glad to see this post and wish I knew more about these chairs. They are now family heirlooms.
