One reason i started collecting (especially insignifigant) items is that my phillosify has always been that if u have enough of ANYTHING u can create art. Kind of a "collage" way of thinking, that way, u can take valueless items & turn them into something that does have value (at least in my eyes). sometimes i hit a home-run, othertimes, well, not so much. This project started out (in my mind) as a game winner, & as fathers day was a week away, & dad (used to) love to go fishin, i figured, love at first sight. I had, over the yrs., collected dozens of fishing reels & as its not my cup of tea, came up with this. 36 reels, a fishing hat full of lures, a large bag of "zip ties" , 20 sticks of hot glue, hours of making size, style, & color fit (symetrically) by groups of threes, & the next thing U know, the next day is f-day! I really dont know what happened, but it just seemed like something was missing. The wife thought it was cool, & with no time to experiment, i took it to dads. The thing is, that night he was admitted into the hospital with a uranary track infection, which evidently, can cause hallusinations! He never really recovered, sadly, & when his symptoms let up, thought that all those reels, could have been put to better use. Thats OK, one day ill figure out what its missing to give it that (WOW) factor. I do know that alot of my (creative) thoughts are due to my major A.D.H.D. influences. Guess i better get stronger meds!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I like it!! That is a lot of glue!
I would not want to stumble into that in the middle of the night after too many beers. Can you imagine going to the emergency room with that stuck to your body!

u said it packrat, i can laugh about it now but, as i mentioned, dad was hallucinating, due to the U.T.I. & when i brought it in the house, he just kept looking at it in the strangest way, almost like he wqas looking at someone youve meet in the past but wernt sure. Then he just kept saying " i like the new pup u got there" pointing under my legs as i was sitting in a chair. Of course, there was no dog there! thats when i started to get worried, & we tok him to the hospital.

I think we are on the same wavelength. I am the poster child for "untreated ADD".

I wonder what would happen if you went off the meds entirely?

I do have an observation about your artistic philosophy though. To folks who like fishing and collecting fishing equipment, calling fishing gear 'especially insignificant' and 'valueless' is "fightin words". Perhaps you can describe what you do as taking items that have significance and combine them to enhance or alter their meaning.
Taking things that have value and adding value.

      On the other hand-
Making the art and describing it are usually two different things. Artists do what they do and sometimes it's well planned and sometimes it's not. Sometimes the "artist's philosophy" is related to their art and sometimes it's just something they are expected have, but may have little to do with the actual making of their art.

An "artist's philosophy" at it's best helps describe the artist and their art, at its worst is just another "tool" to pry the wallet out of a buyer's pocket.

If you (like me) think this is starting to verge on B.S. feel free to skip it. ...ooops, too late. :)

thank u scandinavian , & sorry Bootsn, i didnt really mean that the reels were worthless, im really getting more "caught up" with the hat rack.LOL its that i have in the past tacken items (such as) hundreds of keys & made a sculpture of a giant key, single chrysals & made very large ones initials, letters, ect. Thats what i meant when i said worthess. Come to think of it ur right, i guess nothing is really worthless!
