Watch was passed down on my wifes side, when I first picked it up and gave it a wind it started right up. I let it run It kept perfect time and I actually enjoyed listening to it. Im new to pocket watches and thought it was interesting. I believe I snapped the winding mechanism when prying it open. I should have read up on how to open it first, but wanted to give you guys a shot of the insides. the number is 16158433. It says 23 jewels adjusted in gold as well as Vanguard, Waltham Mass. Very interesting but im literally kicking myself for not doing some research before attempting to open it. Watch survived all those years with apparent constant use for many of its early years and I break it in a matter of minutes. Oh well enjoy....

This is a great Rail-Road pocketwatch, possible that you haven't broke anything major. I really think this is a totally awesome piece and has a very nice collector value. The "Vanguard" model Waltham is a prized rail-Road watch. The serial # that you have posted, dates this to 1907-08 and it's a model 1892, grade Vanguard. Again very nice piece, would check on having this fixed. Thanks for sharing.

I will get it fixed, just wish I wouldnt have been so quick to get it open. Thanks for all the information, It really is an interesting watch. The insides do not resemble something over 100 years old, at least not in condition. So I imagine the case they placed them in, though worn must have done its job well. Ill take another pic of the inside without the flash so you can see more of the detail and the numbers.
