    Appears to be made of thin metal. possibly tin. Found approx. 3" deep near the remains of an old farm house in Central Louisiana

      I can tell you they come in all shapes and sizes and made of all kinds of material. They also come with different numbers of stars on them. I think they were only made until WWII but possibly longer. I have seen sterling ones and cloth ones at flea markets and yard sales.
