I've had a lot of people try to set me straight about this wonderful wicker basket, saying it's a picnic basket. But no, if you look closely at the pictures you will see that it is indeed an actual suitcase. Probably from 1900 to 1930's. Has been well taken care of considering the material it is made of. Of course, I expect someone here will yet again tell me it's a picnic basket, lol, but I will only laugh.
Could you please point out the characteristics that define this wicker item as a suitcase? And how you determine it’s age ?
Is the handle reinforced on the inside?
I’m always curious and willing to learn about things of which I have little knowledge.
Thanks!
I've asked an appraiser that years ago. She told me that it has no features that a picnic basket would have for holding food items, utensils, etc. She said a lot of people mistake this old style of summer day trip/overnight suitcases for picnic baskets. I've had people scream curse words at me because I said it was a suitcase.
