This book is in good shape but there is a water mark on the front cover.
The author has signed this book.I know this increases the value of the book but I don't know by how much.
How do you tell if this is a first edition if it only has the copyright and it does not say first edition inside?
Yep, it sure is hard to know what printing you are looking at when it comes to Grosset & Dunlap publishers since they never gave any information on their copyright pages. In this case it seems that there were no other prints than this one though. A fair guess would be that this copy was printed sometime between 1930-35.
Nice signature by the way. If you also had the dust jacket it would be a pretty collectible book.
EDWARDS, LEO [PSEUDONYM OF EDWARD EDSON LEE]
A signature can make a big difference in the value of a book but it's depends on the collectibility of the author.
Edgar Allen Poe - Lots
Leo Edwards - not so much.
There are several good books that can help you to learn a lot, in a short amount of time, about collecting books. Check your local library.
Bootson you made me laugh. So true. I did go to my library and there are many collectors books on glass, or trains etc.but, no books on collecting books! Guess I'll have to buy one. Thanks for the comments.
Different sites charge different amounts. I don't get the differences in price.
If you did a google you would have come up with $7.50 for a value. Have the signature authenticated if you want to. Google would have told you the signature was stamped in this edition when it was printed.
