    This is a first edition,copyright 1923

My question is: When a copyright expires and the book becomes public domain, does this devalue the book even though it is a first edition?

I can't imagine that going into the public domain would effect the value of a first edition. However, not all first editions are worth much $$$. Most never had second editions! What drives the value of first editions is primarily desirability, scarcity, and the value/fame of the author.
