What I was told is it was bought in China in the 1850's. It has 6 chairs that perfectly fit around the table underneath. I just love this table. If anyone has any tips on value and/or restoration process I would be more than glad to hear. Also any other history that may be known. Thanks.

Don't even think the word restoration until you know what you have. what you were told is hear say and it means nothing. Have it properly appraised and authenticated.

Post some additional pictures-- include the full table, chairs and a shot of the underside of the table and someone can give you an idea of age.

My initial reaction is more like 1950s than 1850s, but additional photos should confirm/ deny my suspicions.

I agree scottvez. It was easier to tell him to get it checked than tell him my thoughts regarding the manner in which this was produced.

I not sure anyone told you what you wanted to hear as far as the age and value of your pieces. I loved your table because I've been aware of these types of ornamental carvings for some time and have always felt they do have a place in wood carving art. Just keep in mind that pieces like this could have been produced by one carver or a group of carvers and they may be paid only a pittance for their labor.
You must keep in mind that if you buy something as an investment, and you know nothing about it, then do your research first. If you buy something because you like it, then at times 'hell or high water' can't keep you away. If you are happy with it then enjoy it.

I've got an oriental set with eight or ten (they're out in the garage =x) just like this and haven't been able to get much information on them. I also have a similar style table with a Dutch carved theme.

They're beautiful works of art, for sure.
