Last summer I was traveling with my family near Interlaken in Switzerland when we came across this weird old hotel that had been converted into a massive second-hand store, with various rooms all over its 6 stories filled with odds and ends (typically grouped by theme). Most of it was really cheap, in contrast to the rest of Switzerland, and though I had only an hour, I combed the entire building for a few treasured finds that I could pack into my carry-on bag.

In the rooms filled with militaria, I picked up some interesting medals and this little tin cup. I loved the anchor emblem, and the phrase "FEST und TREU," which I first assumed meant "Fast and True," though knowing a little German I realized "fest" more likely means strong, solid, or unwavering.

I believe this is some sort of Swiss naval-issue cup, but does anyone recognize the insignia? Perhaps it is German after all?

Have to do the magnet test tonight - it's about 4 inches high and 2.5 across the top. Communion was my guess too...

OK: so I'm thinking aluminum now (no magnet sticks to it), and it's really closer to 3" tall, 2.5" across the top...definitely super light and cheaply made. The simple shape and design still reminds me of camping or military equipment.

thanks to Bellin68 & trunkman for the love!
