I found this stuffed in a box of goodies that I had, I never really thought to much about it, but doing some research and asking around, found out it's a pretty nice treasure! Leather landyard in decent condition too, still soft and pliable!

Well thanks to the comments regarding this, I have 2 Huge differences in opinions on what this might be, one lady who collects Native American items and site member Jason! So I'm 'up in the air' and doing alot of looking and more research.. for now there is a ?? about it!

I must agree that I misstated on the meaning of overlay, I was meaning the shadow box look. I'll add a pic if I can of the clip mechanism as it does not have one. It needs a repair. Maybe you can help me further on that?! then you can see the marking. What I was told by another collector is that this type of thing was made during the 'big tourist' era in the 30's, not made for pawn type of jewelry but for the trade industry and prob the reason it was not signed. darn it!

Thanks AR8Jason for all your information! For now, I will give it a look. I also have edited the title with ?? . I do know that it is Sterling marked along with 'handmade' marked.. and that I do love it!

I would not put an new aftermarket slide on this, it was handmade and I would leave it as is or have a hand made sterling string keeped added to keep it as orig designed as possible.

Firemountain has some nice items, I have purchased from them before as I needed a few little things for leather items I have done. I typically would prefer older vintage items to work with, like the pounds of old czech beads that I found on ebay some years bead! Perfect sized beads are fun & easy to work with, but that 'ain't' the way the old stuff was!
Thanks again, if I gain any new insite, I surely add comments!

Well it was generous of you to share all the information and glad we agree that a silversmith to do the repair. I have done antique items for along time and always hate when someone strip's or redoes something, or PAINT a grand old piece of furniture! Original is so much better..no repair is better than a botched fixup! thanks again!

Thanks for your imput! I don't really want to wear it, it is just one of my old treasures! I'll be sure and let you know if I want a 'clip' designed for it for wearing ability. I think i know a silversmith that could do the repair close to the other keeper. Just undecided right now... thanks for all your imput!

I'd say that Jason is right, its not as old as the 1930's. A lot of people have pieces that aren't signed and they read somewhere that it MUST mean its made before 1930, but I'll tell ya something, about half of ALL Native American jewelry, old and new, that I come across has no markings whatsoever, not even "STERLING." That said, its Navajo, 1970's-80's, shadowbox, and a nice little bolo.

Thanks Stillwater, I appreciate your information! Even 70's 80's is good that it is Navajo, shadowbox and that you feel it is a nice little bolo!
