    i am hoping someone knows what this wood crate is...origin, meaning of numbers, value, use, age...anything??? the crate has markings...on top "ammunition for cannon with explosive projectiles". the side has "c 256 lot 42-18". i appreciate any information.

      I can't tell you what the markings mean but I can tell you they are a common box. I buy them to put tools in. They seem to last forever. I put boiled linseed oil on them once a year to keep them from drying out and splitting.
