This 1958 coke sign doesn't have the coke bottle next to the words "Ice cold" like most of them do. There is another version that has a glass of coke instead of a bottle on the sign down next to the "Ice Cold." I have yet to find another sign like mine that is this version, without the bottle or glass of coke. I haven't found any pictures of any other signs just like this one or any info on it. In Petretti's coke collectibles price guide it has a picture of the version with the bottle and mentions the version with the glass, but doesn't mention this version that has neither glass or bottle. By the price in the guide the version with the glass of coke is a little more rare than the one with the coke bottle. If you have any info or seen this version or know where a picture of this version is please let me know! This is still an unsolved mystery that I would love to solve. It could be a misprint or something i\I'm not sure but please help figure out what the deal is with this particular sign! thanks a bunch!!
Where did you get it from??
I think it was made this way on purpose. I have one with the bottle. The white background lines printed within the area of the arrow are absent where the bottle is printed. Yours has unbroken white lines, so it seems to me this is an indication nothing was meant to be there. Also, on my sign, the maker's mark/production date is printed black, so would have been included on the print plate for the black ink of the bottle. Your maker/date info is printed white, another indicator that no black ink was intended to be laid down. It's a great sign, I have not seen one without the bottle or glass before. Thanks for sharing.
I bought it from an antique sign and coke collector friend of mine. why do you ask? tommy1002
Really love these flange signs! Nice condition too!
I was hoping you would have an answer like that, and not that is was an ebay deal. There is a seller with some real nice looking signs but about half of them are reproductions. Both of your Coke flanges are very nice!!!
If anyone know's where i could find out more about this sign and how rare it is and what it's worth please let me know.
The fact that your sign doesn't have the glass or bottle may not enhance value. Collectors typically like signs for presence of image, rather than absence of image. The flange signs like yours with bottle are selling on eBay for $300-$500 in excellent to mint condition. The same signs with the glass go for double-triple that amount, they are much more scare. If this were my sign, I'd assume value to be similar to bottle, hope it to be similar to glass. The actual value is what the market will pay, and to find that out you have to put it up for sale.
ya petretti's says the one with the bottle is worth 750 mint condition and the one with the glass is 1500 because it's so rare. I think this sign is even more rare than the one with the glass. I relieze people buy some signs for the image and that they look neat , but something that is super rare or one of a kind also makes the value go up in my opinion. The more rare something is in the antique and coke world definaty makes a lot of other items price sky rocket. I do agree with you to an extent but if you already have both of the other more common signs this would be great to complete the collection and especially if it is one of very few ever made. i would like to think it should be worth atleast what the version with the glass of coke is worth or maybe even more if it's as rare as i think it is. has anyone ever seen one like it before?
I think this flange is worth more than bottle flange but less than glass cup flange. it is a rare flange that I have never seen before, but I think collectors would be more likely to bid on one with the cup before this. More collectors know about the cup flange making it more desirable, more desirable higher price, while this flange may scare off the odd collector because he or she may think its a repo due to never seeing it before. Thats one thing about having a rare item its hard to put a price on it or confirm its original. Your right tho someone that already has the bottle and cup flange would love to get this so its all about finding the right buyer.
I appreciate everyone commenting on this sign. I still hope to find out some more facts and information about this sign. thanks again for your help everyone!
Just wanted to go back to these and see if anyone has ever seen this version of the sign?
