THIS PAINTING IS BEING POSTED TO ALLOW FOR COMPARISION WITH THE DORSEY DONIPHAN PAINTING OF THE LITTLE GIRL POSTED BY HELLOKITTY6811. WE DO NOT REQUIRE AN ID OF THE ABOVE PAINTING.
By the great courtesy of the Registrar at the Office of the Secretary of the Interior, we are pleased to present you with another Dorsey Doniphan painting that might never have been published.
The label on the back of the painting reads:
"Public Works of Art: Room 168 - Treasury Building / Artist: Dorsey Doniphan / Region #4 / oil / Title: Penna. Avenue from 7th Street / Disposition: ....................... Interior Dept. / Date: 6/5/34 / This picture is the property of the United States Government"
Follows the description provided by the Registrar:
Elevated view shows street car just below left center / Justice Department & Old Post Office Tower just above left center. Vantage appears to be from the roof of what is now the Sears Building. 7th Street angles in from the right. Statue lower right in park on horseback, foot stamping. The scene is early spring or late winter. There is a hint of color in the young trees which could be buds & there is a light snow. Painting is an interesting study in greys.
Plain wooden frame has a metal label which reads ""PUBLIC WORKS OF ART PROJECT"". On receipt I called ......... in the General Services Administration to ask if she considered it part of their collection. She said that many such paintings had been transferred to the departments & we should feel free to catalog it as our own. Painting reported to Museum by ........., Attorney Advisor, SOL."
Thank you, kindly, Mannikin!!!
