(1 item)
This item from what I understand is a decorative table top item that was used to hide a candle stick phone. Probably used in a more expensive home in its day to hide the phone and fit the décor of the house. Has anyone ever seen this before or anything like it? The item appears to be made of wood with some sort of heavy paint or glazing on it. Details inside and out appear to be hand cut so I am thinking it is more of a one of a kind and was not mass produced. Looking for some history on this type of item if anyone has anything to offer. My Dad Retired from Rochester Telephone Co. (NY) after 40 years of service back in the mid 80’s and it’s something that has just been around.
Believe it or not I remember seeing something that looked a lot like this on the TV series “Star Trek” sitting on a shelf behind Captain Kirk in his living quarters during one of the shows. Would love to know more about the item if anyone can help. Thanks, John
I have one. Been looking for years about it. Can't believe I found yours. On the base of mine is copyright cd L C Mayer 141. I haven't had time to research, after I found yours. There is one on GARY'S TELEPHONE COLLECTION - SPECIALTY ITEMS. His web is http://www.telephonecollector.info/collectionsite/specialty_items/ I hope this helps. Mine came out of an estate home in Galveston, Texas. Good luck!! I would like to know how much they are worth, just for curiosity sake. thank you, Alys Jaramillo
